From my own limited experience with drawing, if there’s a trick to it (apart from drawing what you really see), it’s in taking the time to get all the main features positioned correctly.
If you’ve just drawn a perfect nose, but it’s in the wrong place, you have to have enough faith to rub it out and have another go.
When you finally get the features shaped and placed correctly, the resemblance suddenly leaps out of the page – even when the drawing is just a simple outline sketch. It’s a magical moment.
